Meet your instructor, and the founder of FreedomRose! Rose is an IP lawyer that was frustrated with the process that doesn’t allow law students to be practice-ready IP lawyers straight out of school and the lack of IP information available to the public-at-large.

Founder, Head of Content Creation, Instructor, and IP Lawyer
There’s a fairly standard path to being a lawyer: go to college, go to law school, work at a law firm, and finally decide to be a partner at a law firm or go in-house at a company for the rest of your life. While at a law firm I was able to have more fulfilling IP pro bono work than at a company, it never seemed enough. I always felt that the people that really needed my help weren’t getting it. Plus, I was always frustrated at how school dumps a bunch of information into your head, but doesn’t teach you how to actually do the job you’re supposed to do – you learn that on the job – so why do we pay so dang much for school? So, by 2022, and six years of practice under my belt, I understood my problems with the law industry.
Problem #1
I went to law school, and yet it didn’t teach me how to be a lawyer. Everything that I learned about being an IP lawyer was learned on the job. Why exactly did I need a J.D. then? Why didn’t they teach me how to be an IP lawyer, or a lawyer in general? And I know I’m not the first person to wonder this, but I wanted to do something about it, which is why I started making these courses.
Newly graduated students fresh out of law school are thrown into a lake and told to swim daily – being handed IP cases or issues that they have to figure out on their own – or even if they have a good mentor at their firm, they’re applying the information they know to an IP issue for the first time on the job (again, why do I need a J.D. then?). General practitioners are also doing their best at an IP issue, which is a niche field, and trying to figure out how to best solve the issue for their client, without any background IP knowledge.
So, many times, this leaves new lawyers or general practitioner lawyers to their own devices to figure out their client’s IP needs.
Problem #2
And it’s not just new graduates or general practitioners that are left to their own devices when it comes to IP. I didn’t like that at the law firm, I could really only help the big non-profit organizations through the firm, instead of smaller non-profits, individuals, or businesses. I also didn’t like that at the law firms or at a company, when I was able to help smaller individuals or businesses, it was always through a third-party pro bono center where I would only be able to provide an hour-long consultation at maximum, and never saw anything through to the end. Additionally, nearly all of these pro bono services require a showing of financial need. Most people live paycheck to paycheck, and unfortunately exceed the income requirements for these free services.
So, all in all, many individuals and businesses will be left to their own devices to figure out their own IP needs.
Problem #3
When all of these people are left to their own devices, we come to the biggest problem of all in the law industry: the amount of information available to the public at large is limited in value, and what is out there is extremely confusing to find or use.
So, here is what I am doing to try to fix these problems!
Through FreedomRose LLC, I launched IP Insights™ e-books, online courses, and worksheets, which (a) trains law students interested in pursuing a career in IP to be IP practice-ready lawyers, and (b) takes the information that should be available for the public (like general practitioners, individuals, and small businesses) to know and easily apply themselves to their own IP issues at the fraction of the cost it would take to hire an attorney.
Currently available is the IP Insights™: Trademark Clearance and Filing online course and book, which contains information on (1) what is a trademark, (2) why do I need a trademark, (3) how to draft goods/services for your trademark, (4) how to conduct a basic trademark database search on the USPTO website, (5) how to conduct a basic common law trademark search on a search engine, (6) how to analyze your trademark search results, (7) how to save your records of your trademark search, and (8) how to file a basic trademark application.
And I want you to know, I’m only getting started!
I will continue to better these courses and e-books, create new courses and e-books, and spread information about intellectual property to all until we can all do our own IP.
But I’m so glad that you’re here now, and you’re here early…
I’m here to teach you all about intellectual property. As a former practicing IP attorney, I specialized in trademarks, copyright, domain names, advertising, and so much more! So I’m here to share that knowledge with you all now.
I’m so happy to have you on this journey with me, and I hope you will all #LearnIPWithMe soon!
All my love,
Rose Garansi
